  • Return the shirt that doesn’t fit.
  • Check the streaming subscription you barely use.
  • Find the car insurance document.

Your seven-day reset

  1. Day 1

Write down five things you’ve been putting off

Open a note and list up to five jobs you’ve been putting off. About 5–10 minutes. Name a specific action, such as ‘book a dentist appointment’ or ‘reply to the landlord’, so you’ll know where to start. Done when: you have a short list to work from. Five-minute option: write down just one job.

  2. Day 2

    Book one appointment

Choose an appointment—a dentist visit, haircut or car service. Open the booking page, check your calendar for two possible times, then book or send a request. About 10–20 minutes. You can send: ‘Hello, I’d like to book [appointment or service]. I’m available [first time] or [second time]. Does either work? Please let me know if you need anything from me. Thank you.’ A request needs a reply before the appointment is confirmed. Add a confirmed booking to your calendar; leave a pending request on your list for Day 7. Done when: you’ve booked or sent a request. Five-minute option: find and save the booking page.

  3. Day 3

Answer one message you’ve been avoiding

Open one message, work out what the sender needs and send a short answer. About 5–10 minutes. For a repair visit: ‘Hi [name], thanks for arranging the repair. I’m available [day and time]. Please confirm whether that works and whether I need to be home. Thanks.’ Need to check something first? Write down the question to resolve. Done when: your reply is sent. Five-minute option: open the message and jot down the main point of your reply.

  4. Day 4

Start the return for one purchase

Find the order email for one purchase, such as a shirt that doesn’t fit. Check whether it’s eligible for return and when the window closes, then follow the retailer’s return instructions. About 10–20 minutes. Pack the item as instructed. If it needs a drop-off, add the location and deadline to your Plan or calendar: a packed parcel still needs to be taken there. Done when: the return is started and you know the next step, or you’ve confirmed it isn’t eligible. Five-minute option: find the order email and check the return deadline.

  5. Day 5

Check one subscription you barely use

Open the account page or app-store settings for one subscription you barely use. Check its renewal date and price, then choose whether to keep or cancel it. About 5–15 minutes. Cancelling? Follow the steps and check the confirmation—opening the settings alone won’t cancel it. Note when access ends. If confirmation is pending, leave it on your list for Day 7. Done when: you’ve checked the renewal and chosen to keep or cancel. Five-minute option: find the renewal date and price.

  6. Day 6

Save one document where you can find it

Find one document you often need, such as your car insurance policy. Save it in your own files, in a place you already use, with a clear name such as ‘Car insurance — current policy’. About 5–10 minutes. Open it from that location to check you can find it again. If it’s missing, note who to ask for a copy. Done when: the document is saved and easy to find. Five-minute option: search your email for the document.

  7. Day 7

    Check what’s still waiting

Open your list from Day 1 and check the jobs you started. About 5–10 minutes. Did the appointment provider reply? Does the return need a drop-off? Has the cancellation come through? Follow up where needed and cross off what’s finished. For anything still waiting, add the next action and any confirmed date to your Plan or calendar—for example, ‘Drop off the return by Friday’. Done when: each pending job has a next step. Five-minute option: check one pending item and write its next action.

A weekly check, only if useful

Want to keep this going? Spend ten minutes a week checking pending replies and unfinished jobs. This starts paused in your copy; turn it on if useful.
